Scavenger Hunt

This image is an example of logos. It makes a logical appeal to reason because it is trying to show that students should come to the university because of our top tier research. By stating we are in the top three research universities in the state we are appealing to those interested in research.

Spring Break :)

My favorite spring break was during my senior year in high school, which was last year. My parents and I went to the beach and stayed in a timeshare that my neighbors had. There was a little par three course on the resort and we played it three times while we were there. It was fun to play because my mom is not that good, but she was able to play too and we were not rushed because it was pretty empty. My dad and I also got the opportunity to play True Blue, one of the nicest courses in South Carolina as well as a few other nice courses.

Though the weather was a little cold, we went swimming and drifted around the lazy river a few times. The pool was not heated so my dad and I did not spend too much time in the it, and my mom would not get in it at all. There was also a nice screened porch attached to our little apartment that we sat on at night before and after dinner.

My favorite part about the break though was the time I got to spend with my family. It was the last big vacation that we went on before I went off to college so it seemed more special than the rest. We partook in a lot of family activities which included golfing, shopping, and eating dinner at restaurants together. I hope that my family can go on another vacation like this in the near future, as it really brought us together.

That is soooo not true…

In my life I have encountered fallacies in arguments with my parents, mainly with my mom. Fallacies are a deceptive, misleading belief or argument. They usually have to do with reasoning of a particular idea. One day my mom and I were talking about curfews and I said that all my friends got to stay out later than me and then I mentioned one friend that was allowed to. I used my one friend to describe all of them and to attempt to convince my mom to extend my curfew. Looking back on this, I should have gathered more evidence before making my argument, but hey, I was only twelve. I made a big generalization in saying that all of my friends took part in this and it is therefore considered a fallacy.

I continued that argument making another fallacy, stating that the curfew was about trust and that if they did not trust me how come they wanted me to go to college so bad when I got older. It was a pretty lame argument looking back on it. I could have done much better had I planned out my argument before talking. I have learned looking back on these events that I need logical evidence for my arguments and beliefs. I can not back up my arguments by saying so and so did this so I should be able to do this. I need to find actual facts to back up my views so that I can effectively get my argument across.

The Pink Panther Movies

The Pink Panther movies are my favorite movies. Every time I watch them they make me crack up laughing. I like the older original movies better than the newer made movies because Inspector Clouseau was a better actor for the part. He had a much better accent which contributed to the funniness of the movie. Another reason I like these movies are because of the plots. I really like mysteries which this movie molds into perfectly. It is a suspenseful yet funny movie, which makes it the best I have seen.

This movie is so good because of the stupid things that Inspector Clouseau does that usually get him fired from his job only for him to come back and solve the mystery. It reminds me of the Three Stooges and how they did all of the crazy stuff to each other, because Inspector Clouseau did much of the same stuff just not on purpose. My favorite part of one of the movies is when Inspector Clouseau says, “I would like to buy a hamburger,” but it comes out sounding like “I would like to buy a damburgen.” This part is really funny because he keeps repeating it but they do not understand him.

If you have never seen the movies, they are a must see. They will leave you crying from fits of laughter because of some of the events that take place during the movies. How Inspector Clouseau solves the mysteries of these movies is sure to crack a smile. Oh and by the way the music is pretty catchy!

Blogging…Where did it originate?

Blogging has become very popular in today’s society as technology has become the new must do thing. As I myself blog, I know that I can blog about whatever I care for except when I am given a certain topic by my professor. From having a blog, I have learned that blogging is like freedom because anything goes. If you want to write about controversy events, you are able to on a blog.

I have never thought about the origin of the blog and after some research discovered the term ‘blog’ came from the word ‘weblog.’ When breaking down the two parts of the word into ‘web’ and ‘blog’ everything began to make more sense. The term ‘web’ refers to the internet or the act of being online. The word ‘blog’ comes from the acting of compiling documents. Together they mean the act of compiling documents online. The only thing I do not understand is how blog came from weblog. I guess bloggers thought it was cooler to say blog than weblog. Weblog seems sort of like an outdated term, I guess.

I do not think that by knowing the origin of blogs my thoughts have changed regarding the metaphor that I have chosen for it. Blogging in my mind is still an act of freedom because you have the freedom to write whatever you want. I now know that blogging came from a word meaning compilation of documents, and I think the compilation of documents you choose to write about is up to you.
